Role: Lead Researcher & Policy Advocate
Duration: 2 Years
Skills: Policy design, systems thinking, stakeholder engagement, sustainability
Overview:
As part of the Greenstone Capstone Program at Green School Bali, I am designing and leading a two-year project to implement a Climate Education Policy that will aim at integrating sustainability learning into our school curricula. The goal is to ensure that environmental awareness becomes part of formal education across all grade levels.
Impact Highlights:
Create a policy framework that will ideally be implemented in other schools, in order to better disseminate its impact.
Modules written and aligned with the curriculum adopted by teachers and administrators.
Engage educators, environmental professionals and students in cycles of development and feedback.
Reflections:
This project will most likely be a turning point in my academic journey. I will learn to navigate policy conversations, advocate for sustainable education, and turn vision into action.
Overview:
As an independent research project launched in 8th grade, I explored the use of mycelium-based filters to remove microplastics and agricultural contaminants from water systems. This year-long initiative was born from a desire to merge natural systems with low-tech environmental innovation.
Scientific Development:
Developed biodegradable filters using mycelium grown on coffee waste, a local and sustainable substrate.
Designed the filtration system to target microplastics, pesticides, and chemical residues.
Partnered with a Jakarta lab to test effectiveness results showed 100% filtration success in lab conditions.
Field Implementation:
Deployed prototype in a Balinese Subak irrigation system, in collaboration with Sungai Watch, a leading waterway conservation NGO.
Worked directly with farmers and field monitors to track real-world performance.
Communication & Impact:
Delivered a 10-minute TED Talk-style presentation to a public audience, presenting my process, data, and key takeaways.
Collected, analyzed, and documented experimental data independently at age 13, refining the filter over several test iterations.
